Akshay Kumar was one of the highest paid actors in the industry and made no qualms of letting the world know about it.
After Singh Is King, Akki was on an all time high and was charging a whopping 50 crore per film. Even after the debacle of CC2C and Tasveer 8*10, things didn’t seem to change so it was surprising to hear that after Kambakkht Ishq, the actor slashed his price to a mere 20 crores. And here we thought he was letting all those producers out of their misery.
The real reason behind the price reduction was to eventually cash in on the profits of a film. Kambakkht Ishq did manage to pool in Rs 100 crore at the Box Office and Akki would rather have a piece of this pie then be labeled as a high charging actor. For everyone knows how Akshay has been ridiculed for the same both in print, media and the more recent film ShortKut in which Arshad Warsi’s character was inspired by Akshay Kumar.
So with this new mechanism in place, Akshay, these days, is insisting on knowing the cost of the film at the time of signing it so that he can calculate the profit beforehand. Now now Akki, at this pace you might just leave all those producers out of their jobs!
