Shanghai Surprise for Priyanka!

This weekend, Priyanka Chopra was invited by the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) for their closing ceremony on June 21 where she became the first Indian actor to be presented with the festival’s top award, the Jin Jue award but she wasn’t able to receive it in person.

“Priyanka was very excited about going to China to receive the SIFF award. Unfortunately, she had a relapse of her stomach infection so she has been advised against traveling.”

Priyanka Chopra said, “I feel very privileged to receive this honor from the Shanghai International Film Festival. As an actor, it is very encouraging to be recognized for your work. For me, an award such as this on such a big international platform gives me an opportunity to present India and our cinema to the world.”

Priyanka Chopra was the busiest actress in 2008. She had six releases: Dostana, Fashion, Drona, God Tussi Great Ho, Chanku and Love Story 2050 out of which Dostana and Fashion were super hits. All her hard work and dedication has paid off and Piggy Chops is on a roll as this is her tenth award in 2009.

For her performance in Fashion, she has already swept the Star Screen, Filmfare, Stardust, IIFA, Cineblitz, Lions Club Gold awards. Besides that she has been honoured at the 10th FICCI Frames for her contribution to entertainment. The dusky beauty also won the NDTV Profit Car and Bike Award’s Brand Ambassador of the Year title and the Nielson Box Office Award for outstanding contribution to Asian cinema presented during the 3rd Annual Asian Film Awards held in Hong Kong.

About the SIFF and Jin Jue Award
The SIFF is held each year for last 10 years and attracts every year a range of well known international actors and actresses and is the Asian Film Industries mega event of the year. Some of the renowned celebrities who were also present at this year’s ceremony were Isabelle Hupert, Quincy Jones, Ewan McGregor, Michael Rosenberg (director of The Reader), Stephen Daldry, Karen Mok and Lucelia Santos, amongst others.

The festival's highest honour and main prize is the "Jin Jue" award. It is a symbol of the traditional orient culture, is an ancient Chinese wine container which has a uniquely beautiful shape and a gracefully antique style. Priyanka Chopra was the first Indian actor to be presented with this honour on an international platform for her contribution to cinema.
