Saif not flamboyant in real life: Kareena Kapoor

Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor, who doesn't like to make her private life public, has opened up about beau Saif Ali Khan and says he is not as flamboyant in real life as he looks on screen.

"Saif is very different (from his on screen image). On screen I think he is very flamboyant, but in real life he is very understated and relaxed," said Kareena.

"He is very classy but he has an amazing charm about himself, an inherent charm which can be seen on screen. And I think that is what's there with him personally also," she told choreographer-director Farah Khan on STAR Plus' chat show "Tere Mere Beach Mein".

The episode featuring Kareena will be aired Saturday at 9 p.m.

Farah Khan loves TV

She says 90 per cent of her popularity is because of TV

Choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan, who hosts celebrity chat show Tere Mere Beach Mein, says she owes 90 per cent of her popularity to the small screen.

"Small screen is not small any longer. I think it's a larger medium than cinema because even though a village may not have a cinema hall, the people might still have a TV set. I think if I have become a popular figure, it’s almost 90 per cent because of my presence on television," said Farah.

The filmmaker, who has directed movies like Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om, says although she enjoys working for TV, she doesn't like getting decked up for it.

"I really enjoy television. The only part I don't enjoy is doing my make-up and hair and sitting for hours and I also don't like looking fat on TV. Other than that, I like everything about it," she said.

Farah was earlier seen as a judge on shows like Nach Baliye, Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa and Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega.

Celebs get nasty with Farah

Farah Khan sure has a knack for digging out the dirt from our politically correct actors and actresses.

The talk show host has had probably the best responses from her guests who bear it all on her show Tere Mere Beach Mein. Good friend and director Karan Johar who by the way was the first host to cause quite a stir in B-town was at his catty best on Farah’s show.

Everyone knows about the Karan Johar-RamGopal Varma feud and how both of them can’t stand each other’s style of filmmaking. So when Farah asked Karan whether he would like to eat junk food with Shah Rukh or diet biscuits with Ramu, Karan bared his claws and said, ‘I would rather have diet biscuits with Ramu because Ramu has stopped making cinema, atleast he can make diet biscuits.’

This comes right after Ramu in a recent interview said that family dramas should stay in the family and not on screen. Sources even say, Kangna Ranaut who will also be seen in a later episode on the show, told Farah that she was sick of being nagged by directors to look sweet and innocent like Rani Mukherjee and have a dimple like Preity Zinta.

But not everyone’s as nasty, recently latest Kamina on the block Shahid Kapur revealed his secret crush and dream co-star of all time, Madhuri Dixit. He is told to have said, ‘There wouldn’t be any mobile phones those days, so I’d get a lot of time to flirt with all the heroines. I would flirt with all of them.. thoda thoda,’ ‘And a little extra with Madhuri,’ asked Farah. ‘Yes, much more with Madhuri,’ responded Shahid.

Seems like Farah Khan is soon going to topple Karan Johar from his best talk show host throne and we hope Kjo doesn’t bare his claws again, what say?

Shahid wants to flirt with Mads

Looks like Bollywood’s latest star on the block Shahid Kapoor has a Madhuri hangover. Asked by chat show host Farah Khan which heroine he would pick for his dream project — Sridevi, Rekha, Madhuri Dixit or Zeenat Aman — he didn’t waste a moment in rooting for Madhuri!

Out of the heroes — Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra and Vinod Khanna — it was Amitji he wanted. The film, set in the 70s, according to the mock discussion on the show Tere Mere Beach Mein, would be directed by Nasser Hussain, and shot in Kashmir, starring villain Ranjit ‘the rape specialist’ and Shahid himself handling the romantic portions.

“There wouldn’t be any mobile phones those days, so I’d get a lot of time to flirt with all the heroines. I would flirt with all of them.. thoda thoda,” said Shahid. “And a little extra with Madhuri,” asked farah. “Yes, much more with Madhuri,” responded Shahid.

He added, “I would also ask for a longer lunch break so that I can more time to flirt.”

Shahid gets candid on TV show

Shares stories from his struggling days with host Farah Khan

The success of "Kaminey" has catapulted him into the big league, but actor Shahid Kapur says he sat at home for six months without any work after his box office hit "Vivaah" in 2006.

"The most difficult phase was after 'Vivaah' was a super hit. I was at home for six months without work. I got some 60 film offers but none inspired me," Shahid told choreographer-director Farah Khan on STAR Plus' chat show "Tere Mere Beach Mein".

On the show, the actor spoke of losing his confidence after a spate of failures following his debut film "Ishq Vishk".

He even shared how apprehensive and nervous he was when he had begun shooting for "Vivaah", but gained a little confidence after director Sooraj Barjatya gave him a pep talk saying: "There's only one thing that can take you ahead and that's talent and you have that in you!"

"I was unconvinced and gave one shot, then I saw it on the monitor and I said, 'I've given a perfect shot...I know my work.' After that I used to just focus on my work."

The episode featuring Shahid will be aired on Saturday (Sept 5) at 9 pm. Also on the show with him will be Genelia D’Souza.

Priyanka talks about her past on TV show

She reveals what it was like growing up in Bareilly

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, who made a style statement with her hot pants and halter tops in "Dostana", wasn't allowed to wear a pair of jeans at home during her growing up years.

The 27-year-old actress, who was brought up in She reveals what it was like growing up in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, faced these restrictions at home after returning from the US, where she had gone to do her high school.

"I wasn't allowed to wear short skirts and then my jeans were also confiscated. And my mother got 12 salwar kameez sets made for me so that I wore only those because when I used to go to school, guys used to follow me," Priyanka revealed on Farah Khan's chat show "Tere Mere Beach Mein".

But that phase is over for Priyanka who is counted among the most glamorous actresses in Bollywood today.

She will be seen with boxing champion Vijender Singh on the show on STAR Plus on Saturday (Aug 29). They would be seen talking about what it’s like growing up in smaller cities.

Rs 1.42 Lakh for Salman's towel!

The bid for Salman Khan's yellow towel from his movie Mujhse Shaadi Karogi on eBay India has touched a figure of Rs 1.42 lakh.

The towel was put on bid on Star Plus' show Tere Mere Beach Mein hosted by Farah Khan. The bid for the towel ends in three days' time.

Salman was the first celebrity guest on the chat show. Salman had used this yellow towel for the song 'Jeene Ke Hain Chaar Din' from Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. The song was choreographed by Farah Khan.

The towel Salman gave for auction is the one which was used for rehearsal and is his personal towel.

Salman said, "I got this since it has memories with Farah." All proceeds will go to the NGO Sneha.

My show starts with Salman, ends with Shah Rukh

Farah Khan’s TV chat show begins on August 23

Bollywood choreographer-director Farah Khan says it was a conscious decision to start her new television chat show with actor Salman Khan and his mother Salma, who has never given an interview before. And interestingly, the "Tere Mere Beach Mein" series ends with none other than Shah Rukh Khan.

"It was a joint decision taken by the channel and me. They felt that the episode turned out to be very candid and since Salman has never come on a chat show before, it could be a nice way to hook on the audience to the show. So we start with Salman and end it with Shah Rukh," Farah told IANS.

She said it wasn't difficult at all to convince Salman and his mother to be her first guests on the show that starts on Sunday (Aug 23) on STAR Plus.

"Salman has never come on a chat show - neither 'Koffee With Karan' nor 'Oye! It's Friday' and not even 'Rendezvous with Simi Garewal'. It's for the first time he's come on a chat show. His mother has never in her life come on a TV show or even given a print interview. And I just had to tell them once. It was very easy to convince them to come," said Farah.

The filmmaker managed to get several celebrities on her debut chat show but couldn't get her dream guests - former railway minister Lalu Prasad and singer-actor Himesh Reshammiya.

"I really wanted to get Lalu-ji and Himesh together for my show. But he (Lalu) had a cataract operation and so things couldn't work out. But I really hope these two people come to my show, if I have a second season," said Farah.

To give her chat show a twist, Farah has a separate theme for each episode. She brought Salman to talk about being a 'Mamma's boy' and Shah Rukh Khan as a henpecked husband. She had Priyanka Chopra talk about her struggle as an actor.

Asked what the theme for the Lalu-Himesh episode would have been, she said: "I wanted to get them in a category of 'I don't care people'. And these two people are such that no matter how much people imitate them, ridicule them or mimic them, they just don't care. They only do their work."

Other guests on her show will include Hrithik Roshan, Asin Thottumkal, Deepika Padukone, Abhay Deol, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Kareena Kapoor and cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Irfan Pathan.

"Tere Mere Beach Mein" will be telecast every Saturday and Sunday at 9 p.m.

Salman still gets beaten up by mom

Salma Khan reveals more secrets on TV show

Salman Khan has often made headlines for getting into verbal and physical fights, but very few know that the 43-year-old Bollywood star still gets beaten up by his mother Salma.

"As a child, Salman was very naughty He used to get the most beating...still does," Salma told choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan on her soon-to-be-launched celebrity chat show "Tere Mere Beach Mein" going on air on STAR Plus on Sunday (Aug 23).

When Farah asked "Is it just a pat?", Salman, who was the first celebrity guest for the show, said: "Are you mad or what? It comes as such a phatak (tight slap)...I reel under its heavy impact and wonder where it came from! I tell her that how can you beat me mamma, I'm a grown up man now."

Some of the actor's best kept secrets were also unravelled on the show. For instance, she revealed that she still stays up waiting for him at the window till he returns home. Salma said that all her kids tease her for this habit.

"They say that the building doesn't need a watchman with me keeping guard all night," she said.

Salman still takes pocket money: Farah

Director and choreographer Farah Khan is ready to take on her new role as chat show host. Her show Tere Mere Beach Mein gets celebs and the ‘aam aadmi’ together for entertainment packaged with a social message.

Says Farah, “I had been getting offers for such shows for a long time, but I wanted to do something meaningful. I wasn’t keen on doing a typical celeb show also because it has already been done quite well by Karan (Johar, who hosted Koffee With Karan) and Simi (Garewal).”

The director, who has the A-list of Bollywood as her close friends, admits, “For the first season, the channel was keen to get celebs as this would get the show more attention ... and I guess this will help us pass on the social message too more effectively.”

Viewers can look forward to watching several celebrities on the show, like Bipasha Basu, Shilpa Shetty, Shahid Kapoor, Genelia D’Souza, Salman Khan and of course, her favourite producer, actor and pal Shah Rukh Khan. But, with a twist! Each show comes with a theme where the celebs are put on the same platform as the common man.

Farah explains, “Shilpa and Bipasha are daughters who have taken on the responsibilities of their families, traditionally a son’s role. With them, we had a girl from a chawl, who is working to pay off her father’s debts even as her two brothers do nothing to help.”

Genelia and Shahid, stars who got a second shot at shining on the Bollywood marquee with Jaane Tu.. and Jab We Met respectively, come in the segment on “second chances” and were accompanied by a paraplegic who had built himself a car which he could race on the tracks without using his legs. “Genelia was so moved that she broke down and we had to halt shooting till she recovered,” reveals the newbie host.

And while Sonam Kapoor and Karan Johar come on the “weight” issue, as individuals who successfully lost tons of weight, Kareena Kapoor will feature in a segment where she talks about boyfriend Saif Ali Khan, and falling in love with someone from another religious community. Priyanka Chopra and boxer Vijender make an appearance as “small-town” folk who hit the big league.

The show will unveil a never-seen-before side to the stars, promises Farah. For instance, in Salman’s segment, we get to know how Bollywood’s superbrat is still a mama’s boy and chooses to lives in a one-bedroom apartment so that he can live next door to his mom. His father also tells us that the actor falls in love with actresses and then tries to find his mother in them!

The star, who is known to be generous to a fault, having recently been in the news for handing out Rs 25,000 to a beggar, also regularly runs out of money. Farah shares, “Salman is constantly distributing his money to help others and then finally ends up taking pocket money from his parents!”

The segment with Shah Rukh has him make an appearance with his mother-in-law and shows him for the “joru ka gulaam” that he is! “People will see him as a regular guy who also has a mother-in-law like anyone else ... on the show, he gives tips to the ‘ordinary’ man on how to stand up to his wife,” says Farah.

And, is husband Shirish Kunder a ‘joru ka gulaam’ too? Contrary to popular perception, she emphatically states, “While a lot of our decisions are jointly taken, Shirish is quite dominating.”

She’s nonchalant, though, on how she manages to manage triplets and a new show, “The show required me to shoot for barely two months for 13 episodes.”
